Artist's statement and about the Artist

I live beside the Kennet and Avon canal and find the constant changing reflections in the water an inspirational starting point for my paintings. I first explored this theme after one of many visits to Venice. The decaying state of the beautiful buildings slowly dissolving into the lagoon seemed to be echoed in those reflections i recorded there. Last winter reflections of a brightly painted working canal boat seen in the clear cold waters of the canal started off a second series of paintings. Each of these paintings records the path of the reflection of the striped tiller on the boat. Other inspirations for my work include fishing boats from southern Italy and north Devon  .Pattern, colour and composition are all important features of my paintings which are all oil on canvas.

.. After a career teaching Ceramics, Art and Design I became a full time artist in 2003.
